Residential Plumbing
RESIDENTIAL PLUMBING IN Reedsburg, WI.
The average American home loses about 10,000 gallons a year to leaks, and roughly one in ten wastes 90 gallons a day. Ernstmeyer Plumbing Co. LLC handles residential plumbing across Reedsburg, WI, and nearby Baraboo, Lake Delton, and Wisconsin Dells: supply repairs, drain work, fixture replacement, and repiping in copper, PEX, and CPVC. We work in occupied homes every day.

A HOUSE TELLS YOU BEFORE IT FAILS.
Water stains that dry and come back. A faucet that spits air. A drain that gurgles when the washer empties. None of these are emergencies, and all of them are the system telling you where the next failure is going to be. We would rather answer that call than the one at midnight. The cheap fix has a short window.
So we look past the complaint. If the kitchen drain is slow, we want to know why, not just clear it and come back in eight months to clear it again.
- Free written estimate before work begins
- Wisconsin Master Plumber on every call
- Floors covered and work areas cleaned
- Repair-or-replace advice, not a sales pitch
RESIDENTIAL PLUMBING
YOUR HOUSE DESERVES BETTER THAN A PATCH.
Homes around Reedsburg span a wide range: farmhouses on private wells with galvanized runs still in the walls, postwar ranches on city water, and new builds where everything is PEX. Each of those fails differently, and a repair that suits one is wrong for the next. We work out what you actually have before we open anything, then repair it in a way that lasts longer than the last attempt did.
WISCONSIN WINTERS ARE HARD ON HOUSE PLUMBING.
Cold does most of the damage here. Rim joists left uninsulated let a supply line drop below freezing on the worst nights. Hose bibs that never got drained split behind the siding and do not announce it until spring. Softened water and long heating seasons wear tanks faster than they would further south. We plan for all of that instead of reacting to it.
30+ YEARS INSIDE OTHER PEOPLE'S HOMES.
That is a lot of kitchens, basements, and crawl spaces, and it changes how you work. You learn to ask which door to use. You learn that the shut-off in a 1960s ranch is probably seized and to bring what you need to replace it. Thadd Ernstmeyer carries Wisconsin Master Plumber license 996751 and has been solving these problems here since 1997. What would you like looked at first?
WHAT A PROPERLY MAINTAINED HOUSE GIVES BACK
WATER YOU CAN TRUST
Clean supply lines and sound fittings mean what comes out of the tap is what left the main, with no rust flakes, no sediment, and no guessing about what is in it.
LOWER BILLS EVERY MONTH
Leaks you cannot see are the expensive kind. Closing them drops the water bill immediately and takes load off the heater, which shows up on the gas or electric side too.
NO MORE MYSTERY NOISES
Banging pipes, running toilets, and the whine of a struggling pressure tank all have causes. Fixing them makes a house quieter, and quiet plumbing is usually healthy plumbing.
FEWER MIDNIGHT SURPRISES
Most catastrophic failures were visible months earlier as a drip or a stain. Catching them on your schedule instead of theirs is the difference between a service call and a restoration project.
A HOME THAT SELLS CLEAN
Buyers and inspectors look hard at plumbing. Documented repairs, modern piping, and a system with no active leaks remove one of the biggest bargaining chips from the other side of the table.
PRESSURE THAT ACTUALLY WORKS
Showers that rinse, faucets that fill a pot in reasonable time, and appliances that get the flow they were designed for. Restored pressure changes daily life more than people expect.
WHAT WE FIX
OUR RESIDENTIAL PLUMBING WORK
Six areas cover nearly every call we take inside a home. Each one gets the same approach: find the cause, price it honestly, and do the work so it does not come back.

LEAK WORK
Leak Detection and Pipe Repair
Pinholes, split joints, and slab or wall leaks located with pressure testing and careful listening rather than exploratory demolition. Once found, the damaged section comes out and sound pipe goes back in its place.

FIXTURES
Faucet, Sink, and Fixture Replacement
Kitchen and bath faucets, laundry tubs, shut-off valves, and supply lines swapped without wrecking the countertop underneath. Old corroded stops get replaced at the same time so the next job is easier.

REPIPING
Whole-Home Repiping
Galvanized and failing copper replaced with new copper, PEX, or CPVC, routed to minimize wall openings. Done in stages where needed so the household is never without water overnight. The plan comes first.

GAS LINES
Gas Line Piping and Repair
Runs for furnaces, garage heaters, ranges, dryers, and outdoor grills, sized for the appliance and pressure tested before anything is lit. Leak checks on existing lines when something smells wrong.

WELL SIDE
Well Tank and Pressure Switch Service
Waterlogged pressure tanks, failed bladders, and switches that chatter or stick. Correcting the air charge and the cut-in setting stops short cycling and keeps the pump from burning itself out early.

THE WORD ON OUR WORK
WHAT OUR CLIENTS SAY.
People tell us the same things: he came the same day, he explained what he found, he cleaned up. One customer hired us for a bathroom faucet, then called again for a clawfoot tub because the first job went the way it should have.
★★★★★
I was thoroughly impressed by the remarkable level of care and foresight shown throughout the entire experience. Every stage reflected a deep understanding of what makes a process truly effective and enjoyable. The final outcome was exceptional and left me with complete satisfaction.

★★★★★
Many plumbers to chose from, but the honest, friendly, knowledgeable approach is hard to beat. They have helped me out many times after being introduced during a 4000 sqft home build a few years back.

Common Questions
frequently asked
questions.
Questions homeowners ask us on residential calls, answered the way we would answer them standing in your basement rather than the way a brochure would put it.
How do I know if a plumbing problem needs a professional?
If it involves opening a wall, touching gas, altering drain or vent piping, or anything under the floor, it needs a licensed plumber and usually a permit. Fixture swaps and simple clogs are fair game for a homeowner.
How long does whole-home repiping take?
A typical single-bathroom house runs two to three days; larger homes with finished basements take longer. Water is off only during working hours, and we stage the work so the household has service every night. Drywall repair is planned in advance.
Is galvanized pipe still safe to use?
Galvanized supply piping installed before the 1960s rusts from the inside, narrowing until pressure drops and rust colors the water. It is not dangerous overnight, but once flow suffers, replacement is the only real fix. Partial repairs rarely hold.
Can you work in a house while we are living in it?
That is most of what we do. We agree on a shut-off window before we start, keep the work area contained, and put water back on at the end of each day so nothing about your routine changes.
Why does my water look cloudy or rusty when I first turn it on?
Cloudy water is usually dissolved air and clears from the bottom of the glass upward. Rusty water that appears only on first draw points at corroding galvanized pipe or a water heater nearing the end. Both are worth checking.
What plumbing should be checked in an older farmhouse?
Start with the supply piping, the well tank and switch, the sewer lateral, and any shut-off valve that has not been turned in years. Ernstmeyer Plumbing Co. LLC covers rural properties throughout Reedsburg, WI, and the surrounding towns.
Does homeowners insurance cover plumbing damage?
Most policies cover sudden damage, like a burst line soaking a ceiling, and exclude slow leaks that went unaddressed. Documenting the failure and the repair helps, which is why we photograph what we find. Check your own policy language.
Why should we call you instead of a larger plumbing company?
You get a Wisconsin Master Plumber on the job rather than whoever was available. Ernstmeyer Plumbing Co. LLC works out of Reedsburg, WI, so the person who quotes your repair is the one who stands behind it personally.

HOW WE WORK
FROM FIRST CALL TO FINAL CLEANUP, HERE IS HOW.
STEP 01
Talk Through What Is Happening
We ask what you are seeing, when it started, and what changed around the house. Half of a good diagnosis comes from that conversation, and it saves time once we are on site.
STEP 02
Inspect the System, Not the Symptom
On site we check pressure, shut-offs, exposed piping, and the fixtures around the complaint. Problems rarely sit where they show themselves, and a wider look usually finds the actual source quickly. Nothing gets guessed at.
STEP 03
Quote It Before Anything Starts
You get the price, the scope, and the options in plain language, with no obligation attached. If replacement is the better value, we will say so. Any work that is not included in the original estimate will be added as a separate line item.
STEP 04
Protect the House First
Floors get covered, furniture moves, and the water goes off only when we are ready to work. 10 minutes of setup prevents the kind of mess that outlasts the repair itself. It is not optional here.
STEP 05
Do the Repair to Code
Correct materials, proper support, right fittings, and a pressure test before anything closes up. Permits get pulled where the work calls for them and inspections are scheduled on our end. You never chase paperwork.
STEP 06
Walk It With You and Clean Up
We run the fixture, show you the repair, and explain what to watch for. Then the tools, the packaging, and the old parts leave with us and the room goes back to normal.
